Energising the lives and social welfare of our elderly community

About Us
At BAWA, we’re building an ever increasing and diverse community of elders, helping them remain healthy, both physically and mentally, whilst supporting their independence ensuring they age well. We make sure no one feels they’re left out or too old – for us, it’s about giving a safe and secure place for our ‘BAWA’ members to enjoy, make new friends and socialise with each other and learn new skills they never thought they could.
All our members benefit from access to a wide variety of social welfare activities, cultural events, health and wellbeing classes and even tutorials that help them enhance their digital skills.
Over the past 40 years, our focus has been to help our local Indian Asian elderly women, helping them deal with isolation, loneliness, and at times, distressed situations. That’s all changing, and we’ve opened our arms to be more inclusive and encourage members of other communities to join us, helping all of us enjoy life as we age – happily.
By connecting care within the community, BAWA is bringing many elders and their family and friends together so they enjoy whatever life may offer.
Neena Patel
Chair and Trustee
I joined BAWA in 1999 to help expand and develop the charity’s key objectives: provide and assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and wellbeing support for Barnet’s residents. I’ve always seen a challenge when it came to empowering women, so today, the charity focuses on women of Asian origin, helping them to improve their mental health, social welfare and quality of life.
I’m helping BAWA to catapult community awareness around all health issues, address any social stigma, and promote a healthy & physically active life to stay independent. Social inclusion is central to my ethos and most recently, I helped to introduce digital training so members are at ease when using their devices to communicate with their friends and family, lessening isolation, and support wellbeing.
I’m a very proud and passionate person and am supported by a great BAWA team who help me advocate, run and manage a variety of projects to overcome health and domestic violence issues as well as arranging fun social and cultural events. So please contact us if you would like to join BAWA and become a member of our growing community.
